Lisa came to Girls Rock-n-Roll Retreat to teach the girls self-defense, but she did a whole lot more! She gave them a huge self-confidence boost, having them shout “I am strong!” and talking about real-world safety issues while urging them to trust their instincts. The girls were extremely receptive to her approachable teaching style and they continued using her techniques throughout the rest of the week. The teachers at camp also continue to talk about Lisa and can’t wait to have her back again this summer!”

The best part about the i am initiative is kicking the pad and shouting.
Grace (Age 14), I AM Girl

The workshops have made a huge difference in the lives of our students. They’ve been able to connect with one another and in many ways build a small community. Lisa is always prepared and does such an awesome job interacting and engaging with youth.
Chris Aldrich, Youth Development Director, YMCA

It was a moving and enriching experience. I wish I could bottle up everything Lisa said and tuck it under every girl’s arm to carry with them daily.

Lisa led an I Am workshop for my daughter’s Blaine soccer team and their friends in March. Lisa kept the girls engaged which can be challenging with a group of mostly 8 and 9 year olds. I could tell the girls had fun and even learned the main messages. It was amazing to see how empowered the girls became when they realized they already have the tools to be who they want to be – strong and confident young women.

My favorite part of the I AM Initiative was when one word popped into my mind- independent. It felt great to say, I am independent!
Evangelina (age 12), I AM Girl

All of the girls had a wonderful time. It was an active learning experience that provided them with thought and practice in the act of facing challenging situations. Lisa encouraged the girls to engage in activities and dialog appropriate to their cognitive and social development. She learned their names immediately, and tailored her instruction to their energy, questions, and actions.
Jami Schaffer, Troop Leader, Girl Scout Troop #14185

“Thank you once again for coming to motivate the girls. On the last day the kids decorated bracelets with their IAM Statements on them- it was awesome and a good take away for the kids. They really enjoyed your session, thanks for making it possible!”,
Meghan Kunz, Coordinator, PACER Center

I like how you made us find something positive about one another”
Nicole (age 14), I AM Girl

Lisa does an amazing job relating to the girls and not only talks about how you are beautiful on the inside, but also teaches self-defense and kick-boxing that can help build their physical outlook.
Maura Studer, Troop leader, Girl Scout Troop #1607

This class was so fun!
Emily (age 9), I AM Girl

I learned that I am strong and I can stand up for myself. If I don’t want to do it then ‘I am out’.”
Jenny (age 11), I AM Girl

My daughters were working their ‘I am out’ phrases and over all girl power on the black top yesterday. Parents are a-buzz about what happened here on Monday and what their girls are saying about what they learned. Such good and important work, Lisa. So glad this happened and you are who you are. You’re magic.
Andrea, Troop leader, Girl Scout Troop #10985

I’ve never had anyone tell me that I am special and can do anything I want. After this class I think I can be on top of the world.Kerri (age 10), I AM Girl
It was great to sit and listen to your workshop, I found myself sitting there thinking to myself “I got this! and I can face my fears!.” You could tell the girls enjoyed every minute of it! This class was much more than a self-defense class, girls got self-defense for their minds in the form of self-love and I absolutely love that aspect!
