Hey Beautiful humans,
So the Micro Bucket List is Alive and Well. Maybe it’s even become a thing for me by now.
If you missed it, read here. But for a quick re-fresh, this is an opportunity to take on some monthly enjoyment + stretch goals for myself which could lead me to major bucket list accomplishments.
Last month I took these on…read the re-caps below.
MBL- AUGUST
- Singing at Stop Lights and Stop Signs
I can’t say this one was hard for me. I love to sing (even though I’m horrible at it). I started using IG stories to record this and it was really fun. A couple full transparency things I’m gonna share on this one. First, I don’t like to be on my phone while driving so all the posts I shared were at very quiet stop signs and stop lights where I knew people wouldn’t be right behind me honking for me to go if the light changed or they were waiting for me. Secondly, even when I wasn’t using my phone to record the fun I was still intentionally singing, and I had more than a few funny moments of people looking over at me and I saw them laughing. I liked it. Music brings me so much joy and happiness. You can see my playlist for the month over at my personal blog, just note this playlist is an explicit one…below is one of my fav moments singing.
- Take a spontaneous trip
The moment I posted my list for August my friend SaraMae messaged me and said “I want in”. Well this turned into a ‘slightly’ planned trip. You can’t be entirely spontaneous when you’re going with someone else. But here’s what happened. We planned dates to meet in Portland. And nothing else…what happened next turned into it’s own post. I think I rolled out well with this one. That’s my final verdict.
- Read 2 new books
These were SOOO good. I won’t even waste my own words talking about them. Just read for yourself. Click the pics to grab the link for the books!
- Play my drum in public
Uggg. I think what I really wanted was to play my drum in public, WELL. Unfortunately I’m gonna need a few lessons from one of my dear friends David before this happens. So let’s call this one slighlty successful.
- Spontaneous Add On- Jump off a bridge
I went paddle boarding with a bestie of mine and as we scooped under a bridge she told me about the last time she was there canoeing. A woman stood on top of the bridge and asked if anyone was coming under. When my friend Cat said “no”, she responded by jumping off of it. Coming out of the water she said, “I’ve been waiting to do that all summer”.
We continued to paddle our way around the lakes but I couldn’t get the story out of my head. I’d never jumped off a bridge for all the times my mom sarcastically said to me “well if they jumped off a bridge would you do it too”?
This time my answer was ‘Yes’. If she jumped off it I could too. And I really, really wanted to. I told Cat and she laughed. I had this crazy song by Dua Lipa, ‘New Rules’ in my head.
I wanted to create some new rules for myself. Like if I feel something strongly I will go for it. Side note…it’s not legal to jump off this bridge. So kinda double goodness.
Breaking the rules and creating new rules can be a refreshing take on life (p.s. not recommending you do illegal things…just be mindful. This wasn’t hurting anyone or damaging property).
So this became a spontaneous #microbucketlist. It happened in the moment.
Thankfully Cat was there to capture it. Was I scared? Yup. My heart was racing. I climbed over the top of the bridge and thought, “what the heck am I doing”?
Then I jumped. And I was alive. And this is the point of the #microbucketlist.
SEPTEMBER LIST
This one has been brewing for me the whole second half of August. Here’s the thing about creating a micro bucket list. It’s addictive. You desire more adventure and excitement and it’s a wonderful snowball that isn’t snow at all but more like a glowing ball of light (because who really gets excited about a snowball, not me). In truth, I already started writing this post before August was even done and have been giddy about what’s coming next.
- Learn me some bad ass hip hop moves
- Daily social dance gratitude shout outs (p.s. follow my Instagram stories to watch me doing this during the month)
- Visit my sis and her sprites in Texas
- Try 1 new food I’ve never eaten before, every week
Here’s your invitation. Wanna create your own #microbucketlist? Do it. Post and use the tag…it’s wide open for you and me. Like really…crazily it’s a wide open tag. I’ve been using it on stories but you know…those things disappear. Hey wait, what’s the point then?
Oh right, living it. That’s the point. Never mind the hashtag. Just live it.
xx, LVA-
