The I Am Initiative is a perfect resting place for Girl Scout Journeys. We offer events for girls going through different levels of GS that offer fun, learning, and empowerment in a unique and adventurous environment.

girl-scout-trefoil From the GS website: Girl Scouts of the USA creates national program materials to serve our vast and diverse community of girls. To help bring topics “off the page and into life,” we sometimes provide girls—and their volunteers—with suggestions about what people across the country and around the world are doing, that might spark girl interest. In partnership with those who assist you with your Girl Scout group, we trust you to choose “real life topic experts” from your community that are most appropriate for the girls in your area and that will enrich their Girl Scout activities. Thank you for all you do to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to life with girls, so that they become leaders in their own lives—and the future leaders the world needs!

Agent of Change: Discover-Connect-Action Event

As a part of this journey, Juniors discover the athlete, Laila Ali, a boxer who’s made her work as an athlete create change in the world by teaching people how to be healthier. The girls connect during a boxing lesson, learning skills that Laila used in her fighting career while connecting with the girls in their troop during a fun workout. The girls take action by writing a super-heroine story with conflict and resolution together and acting it out.

GIRLtopia: Discover-Connect-Action Event

As a part of this Journey, Seniors write a vision of the “perfect” girl world. They discover how they can bring about Girltopia by tapping into their own super powers- their “I AM’s” in the world- and powering through their fears with the super powers specialized for them. They connect these powers through a kickboxing class designed to help them ground into the power that lives within them. The girls take action by creating a video that educates others on how to be positive change and live as a positive girl in the world.

A World of Girls: Discover-Connect-Action Event

As a part of this Journey, Brownies discover stories of girls who have overcome adversity and grown through it. They learn the stories of 3 inspiring girls who have learned how to live their own ‘I Am Girl’ and be positive change. The girls connect through a kickboxing class designed to help them tap into their own inner powers and talents. They take action by designing their own powers and talents onto a uniquely crafted bracelet to wear and use for a reminder of their powers.

aMUSE: Discover-Connect-Action Event

As a part of this Journey, Juniors become more confident by exploring the roles they play in their lives and trying on new ones. They discover the second rule of self-defense “Face Your Fears, Run Away From Danger’ and do role-playing games to connect on how it feels to be a bully and to be bullied. The girls connect by talking about the stereotypes they’ve filled in life and how they’re skills and talents are deeper than what is seen on the surface. All girls take action by creating personal love notes and inspirations for their friends that encourage each other to be inclusive and live life outside the stereotype box.

MEdia: Discover-Connect-Action Event

As a part of this Journey, Cadettes explore the media they love and work on reshaping images they see every day into positive motivation by creating a discover board. This board includes the things they see in magazines that inspire them and lead them to feeling empowered and inspired. The girls connect with a kickboxing class on breaking down fears and insecurities and building their self-esteem. Then each girl takes action by presenting her vision board sharing her thoughts and feelings, including how she is using the media in her board to create a positive Girl Power image.

BLISS: Live It! Give It!-Action Event

As a part of this Journey, Ambassadors learn how to live their own dreams by discovering their talents and inner super powers. I tell the girls my story of being bullied- to national kickboxing champion and how I learned how to live my own super powers in life. The girls connect through an awesome kickboxing class and take actions by completing a goal orientation workshop to help them find and discover their strengths and passions.

Lisa does an amazing job relating to the girls and not only talks about how you are beautiful on the inside, but also teaches self-defense and kick-boxing that can help build their physical outlook.

My daughters were working their ‘I am out’ phrases and over all girl power on the black top yesterday. Parents are a-buzz about what happened here on Monday and what their girls are saying about what they learned. Such good and important work, Lisa. So glad this happened and you are who you are. You’re magic.
